Clinics & Services
Gisborne Medical Centre offers a number of specialised services which ensures that you receive appropriate and timely care from our multidisciplinary team.
If you are expecting test results, please call us between 9am and 12pm on weekdays. Remember to allow 3 to 5 working days after your tests have been collected before you call us. Laboratory testing can take a few days to complete all the requests.
If results require urgent attention our nurse will contact you to arrange an appointment.
Nursing Service & Treatment Room
Gisborne Medical Centre has a well equipped 5 bed treatment room along with two surgical/emergency rooms and dedicated nurse consulting rooms.
Our modern equipment and spacious environment is easily accessible for all new and existing patients. We are equipped to handle medical emergencies and resuscitation.
A duty doctor is rostered to our treatment room every weekday from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm and Saturday mornings. The duty doctor along with our nurses are available to see all booked emergencies, immunisations and wound care.
We run our Immunisation Clinic as follows:
- Weekly on Thursdays between 2pm and 5pm;
You are also able to have immunisations with your GP outside of these times. You will be attended by a GP and our nurse. Please call us for more information or to book an appointment.
Our doctors and nurses are committed to improving the health and awareness of diabetes in our community. If you are are identified as having diabetes, we invite you to patrticipate in our optional Diabetes Clinic.
During these clinics our diabetes nurse will discuss your history and advise of the best ways to manage your condition, formulate a plan in conjunction with your GP to ensure your diabetes is optimally managed and the risk of complications are minimised.
Visit to the Diabetes Clinic are bulk billed with no out of pocket cost for all patients.
Skin check clinic
Regular assessment of your skin is important for the early detection and treatment of any suspicious skin lesions. Our doctors offer regular skin check appointments which involves a total skin assessment for your peace of mind. Sun damage and skin cancers are common in the Australian climate and we recommend that you also monitor your skin in between expert check ups. Standard consultation fees apply for this service.
For ladies, please come to your skin check appointment without wearing make up!
Chronic Disease Clinics
For any patients who experience chronic illness such as heart disease, arthritis, kidney disease or any other condition that lasts for more than six months, we offer a supportive nurse-led clinic to ensure your care is optimal. In conjunction with your GP, you will receive a written plan outlining your health goals, activities and other medical or allied health specialists who are involved in your care.
Health Assessments - 75+
Health assessments for patients aged 75 years and older provide a structured way of identifying health issues and conditions that restrict quality of life. The aim is to implement strategies to assist patient to remain healthy and happy in their own home environment. This assessment is bulk billed with no out of pocket cost to patients
Gisborne Medical Centre offers this in depth home based assessment which includes:
A medical assessment including blood pressure, medication and immunisation status
A lifestyle assessment including daily activities and mobility
A mood and wellbeing assessment
A social assessment including supporting networks, carers and formal help arrangements
Health Assessments - 45 to 49 year old
Health assessments for patients aged between 45 and 49 provides an opportunity to identify risks for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, mental health issues and arthritis. If risks such as these are identified, a structured plan can be implemented to minimise the risk and prevent future chronic disease. This bulk billed service is provided by our nursing team and your GP.
ATSI Health Checks - Closing the Gap Program
A broad range of health support programs are available at our practice to help our indigenous patients achieve and maintain optimum health.
Please ensure your ATSI status is known to us so that we can tailor our care specifically for you.
Eligibility for the Closing the Gap program and regular health assessments, as well as access to subsidised or free medication is available. Please contact us for more information about programs and services available.
Travel Health Clinics - including Yellow Fever vaccination
